Have you thought about using kids yoga before bedtime?
We live in a fast-paced world and our children are becoming more distracted and unsettled towards the end of the day.
Sometimes over tiredness, over stimulation or swirling emotions from the day’s events can affect a child’s ability to wind down and prepare for a good night’s sleep.
Research from the Australian Centre for Education in Sleep states that between 35 and 40 percent of children and adolescents experience some form of sleep problems during their development.
When a child is sleep deprived they are more likely to lose the ability to concentrate and have a hard time controlling their emotions, which in turn puts more stress on an already exhausted family.
As a parent, I know that evenings can be quite an overwhelming time and I want to share some sleep techniques with you that have worked for me and my three children.
Preparing kids for bedtime
A healthy diet, plenty of exercise and cutting back on screen time before bed are things that certainly help to encourage sleep. But how else can we prepare our kids for bedtime so that they receive a night of good, quality sleep?
I find that a simple yoga sequence within the bedtime routine is a magical trick to have up my sleeve, especially on days where a child’s energy is relentless!
How does yoga help?
Yoga quietens the mind and brings attention to the breath, which is so important as we wind down for the day.
The four yoga poses that I am sharing have been created especially for children, working to release their crazy energy in a fun way, whilst improving their circulation and digestion, delivering some focused self love and bringing peace to their mind and body.
