Bring peace to busy minds and bodies with a free guided meditation for children.
I believe that there cannot be peace in the world, until there is peace within. Yoga means union and on this World Yoga Day, we come together from all walks of life from around the world to celebrate life, to breathe peace and love and to share through yoga, the act of togetherness.
Let’s dedicate today’s practice to peace.
Free guided meditation for children
To celebrate World Yoga Day and the practice of peace, I’m giving away a free guided, visualisation meditation to complement your yoga practice.
After an exciting and energetic yoga practice it’s sometimes difficult for a child to become still and calm for the Shavasana, or relaxation part.
I discovered that offering a visualisation during this time helps to sustain a child’s focus long enough for them to receive the benefits of a meditation relaxation.
Why is meditation important?
Meditation kicks in the body’s relaxation response which holds the power to reduce stress.
Henry Benson, of Harvard Medical School and the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, discovered the power of the relaxation response in the 1960s. But his subsequent research found that the approach is really no different to what people have done for centuries through prayer, chanting and repetitive motion.
Today, scientists have shown that such practices lower heart rates, blood pressure and oxygen consumption, and they alleviate the symptoms associated with a vast array of conditions, including hypertension, arthritis, insomnia, depression, infertility, cancer, anxiety – even aging.
Through practice, children will learn to enter the relaxation response more regularly in their every day life experiences (instead of a stressful fight-or-flight response), which in turn assists in self regulation in stressful situations. Additionally, it provides the child with a strong and centered foundation as they grow – with confidence, good self esteem, social awareness, creativity, calmness and focus.
Meditation gives children the tools that they need to move forward positively in a complicated world.
Our guided meditation is perfect for your little one to follow once they’ve completed our yoga sleep sequence (another free resource for your parenting toolkit!)
